Hyderabad: The State health department is all set to start administration of the second dose of Covid vaccine to all the health care workers in Government hospitals from Saturday. The drive to administer the first dose of Covid vaccine to all healthcare workers and frontline workers from different departments across Telangana concluded on Friday with authorities inoculating a total of 2,77,825 beneficiaries.
The second dose of Covid vaccine, to be administered after a period of 28 days, will start from Saturday for all health care workers in Government hospitals. Out of the 2,77,825 beneficiaries who received the first dose of Covid vaccine, the health department vaccinated 84,340 front line workers while the remaining 1,93,485 individuals comprised of health care workers from government and private hospitals.
The Covid vaccination administration drive started on January 16 for health care workers in Government hospitals and later was extended to health care workers across all the private hospitals in Telangana. After concluding the vaccination drive for health care workers, the health department launched vaccination drive for field level workers drawn from Panchayat Raj, police, municipal, personnel drawn from central reserve police and revenue wing.
The Covid vaccine beneficiaries in Telangana received a combination of Covishield (manufactured by Serum Institute) Covaxin (from Bharat Biotech). No severe adverse events were reported during the drive.
“We have not received any instances of severe Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI). Depending on the availability and next set of guidelines from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), we will be launching the Covid vaccine administration for senior citizens,” health care officials said.
After the vaccination of health care and front line workers, the next group identified by MOHFW for vaccination is individuals over 50 years of age and those under 50 years with comorbid conditions because there is high mortality in this category. However, more than 50 years of age groups is divided into two sub-groups with one group comprising of 60 years and above, who will be vaccinated first. The second subgroup of beneficiaries between 50 and 60 years of age group will be vaccinated after the first sub-group is covered, senior health officials said.
