A 19-year-old TSRDC student who attempted suicide by jumping off the hostel building died during treatment in Hyderabad. This marks the second such student death since April, raising serious concerns over student welfare at the institution.
Mancherial: A second-year BSc (BZC) student of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College (TSRDC) for Girls, who sustained critical injuries after allegedly attempting to die by suicide by jumping off the college hostel building on the night of June 24, succumbed while undergoing treatment at NIMS-Hyderabad on Friday.
The student, identified as Kummari Swapna (19), reportedly left her room under the pretext of using the washroom before taking the extreme step. She was the daughter of Laxman from Bejjur mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
Police said Swapna suffered serious injuries in the fall and was initially rushed to a hospital in Mancherial. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. The motive behind her suicide attempt is yet to be established. Police are investigating the incident and further details are awaited.
This is the second such case reported from the same institution within a span of two months. On April 24, Laxmi Prasanna (19), also a second-year degree student at TSRDC, died while undergoing treatment after she allegedly jumped off the hostel building. Her death had sparked public outrage, with her parents and family members staging a dharna demanding justice. Prasanna hailed from Jaggayyapet in Bheemini mandal.
