Hyderabad: In a major decision, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) decided to remove advertisement hoardings installed on the rooftops of buildings in the Cantonment area, which pose a high risk to human lives. This decision was taken along similar lines to the neighbouring GHMC.
On Tuesday, the Cantonment Board, chaired by the President, Brigadier S Rajeev, also passed a resolution on the removal of hoardings identified in 19 locations in the Cantonment area.
SCB chief executive officer D Madhukar Naik explained why the proposal to remove hoardings on rooftop buildings was moved. He said the hoardings posed a risk to human lives, and “we are giving priority to the loss of human lives instead of losing the Board its revenue through these advertisement hoardings.”
The Cantonment Board also passed a resolution on setting up open gyms with all equipment in 10 identified parks within the Cantonment area.
The Cantonment Board members approved the proposal and passed a resolution as well. According to the SCB CEO, Madhukar Naik, the tender process has been completed, and soon, the open gyms will be set up in the identified parks.
A key decision taken in the Cantonment Board meeting was to demolish 77 Old Grant properties, which will be affected as part of the proposed elevated corridor on National Highway 44. All these properties are on the way to the elevated corridor and were built over a century ago.
Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender asked for suitable compensation for the people who are losing their properties.
The SCB CEO said that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the intending agency for the construction of two elevated corridors in Secunderabad Cantonment, will provide land compensation as per the eligible criteria.
The SCB decided to enter an MoU with Maxvision Eye Hospital to provide a cashless medical treatment facility at CGHS rates to the Cantonment Board employees.
Other issues like road repair and maintenance, water supply repair and maintenance, and other issues are on the Board agenda. Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender and SCB civilian nominated member Banuka Narmada were also present.
