Hyderabad: A requisition from the Principal Secretary to the Governor of Telangana seeking waiver of Rs 6.19 lakh annual lease rent for an Indian Red Cross Society building in Secunderabad Cantonment’s Bolarum area was deferred to the next Secunderabad Cantonment Board meeting. The decision followed concerns raised by Cantonment Congress Party MLA Sri Ganesh that the Board would lose revenue.
The requisition was tabled at the Board meeting held on Saturday and chaired by President Cantonment Board Brig S Rajeev. A Raj Bhavan official urged the SCB authorities to consider waiver of the proposed lease rent, which had been assessed at Rs 6,19,525.12 per annum for renewal of the lease for a period of 30 years to the Indian Red Cross Society for construction of an old age home.
The SCB had executed the lease of the dilapidated building on GLR sy No 30-828 since 29/01/1948 with an annual rent of Rs 5. The Governor of Telangana, who was also Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, had desired to demolish the old structure and construct a new old age home for needy and poor people.
