Kothagudem: Irrigation officials were directed to begin coffer dam works of the Seetamma Sagar Multi-Purpose Project (SSMPP) by the end of May at Ammagaripalli village in Aswapuram mandal of Kothagudem district.
Project Engineer-in-Chief (ENC) C Muralidhar and Secretary to Chief Minister Smita Sabharwal on Tuesday inspected the project site and reviewed the progress of works and the ongoing works of the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project (SRLP).
At a meeting with officials at Manugur, Sabharwal said the State government had accorded administrative approval for the construction of the barrage with radial gates and guide bunds. The 40.608-km-long right guide bund and 55.822-km-long left guide bund would be used to preserve flood water. The water would then be diverted into the SRLP, she noted.
She directed district officials to speed up the land acquisition and hand over the land to irrigation officials. If any hindrances crop up in the execution of the project works, such issues should immediately be brought to the government’s notice.
Sabharwal further said the SSMPP is aimed at storing 36.57 tmc of water and the works should be executed on a war footing following the Covid guidelines.
Reviewing the progress of Sathupalli trunk canal works, she said it was planned to supply water next crop season. With the help of the main canal tanks and others, water bodies would be filled.
Muralidhar told the officials to make arrangements for the dry run of the third pump of the SRLP and asked engineering officials to ensure workflow as per the schedule.
District Collector MV Reddy, Additional Collector K Venkateswarlu and others were present.
