Self-styled YouTube reporter arrested for extortion in Hyderabad
Hyderabad police have arrested a self-styled YouTube reporter for allegedly extorting money by claiming influence over police cases. Officials warned against people misusing media identity and urged the public to report threats or extortion attempts.
Hyderabad: The Shalibanda police have arrested Mohammed Bilal, a self-styled YouTube reporter, for allegedly extorting money by claiming he could influence police cases.
According to the complaint, Bilal demanded Rs 35,000 from a person, assuring that he would manage their case at the police station and prevent arrest, while threatening legal action if the amount was not paid.
Police said the suspect repeatedly intimidated the complainant in a similar manner. An extortion case was registered based on available evidence, following which Bilal was arrested.
DCP South Zone Kiran Khare cautioned that some individuals posing as media persons are engaging in illegal activities such as extortion and case settlements. He asserted that such acts will not be tolerated and that strict legal action will be taken.
The DCP also urged the public to report any threats or extortion attempts made in the name of media or influence, assuring protection and prompt action by the police.
