Khammam: A senior Congress leader Mohammed Javed (55) of Khammam died in a road accident on the Khammam-Hyderabad national highway in Suryapet district on Wednesday.
He was on his way to Hyderabad after attending the party’s newly appointed office-bearers’ swearing-in ceremony held in Khammam on Tuesday. He was serving as a TPCC member and lived in the Red Hills area near YSR Nagar in Khammam.
According to party sources, Javed was driving the car when the incident took place near Mothey. It is said that he lost control of the vehicle and hit a divider at high speed, after which the car veered off the road and fell into a roadside field.
He was flung 15 feet into the air through the broken sunroof of the car and died on the spot. Local police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the Government District Hospital in Suryapet for post-mortem.
District ministers Bhatti Vikramarka and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar and others expressed shock over Javed’s death while extending condolences to his family members.
Javed was known as a follower of Vikramarka and had aspired to contest in the last Assembly elections for the Khammam Assembly seat. Despite being denied the party ticket, he worked hard for the victory of Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, who contested for the seat.
