Hyderabad: German audio company Sennheiser is seeing an accelerated demand for audio and home entertainment products as entertainment consumption over the last 18 months has largely moved to home. In addition to this, ‘work from home’ and ‘learn from home’ have further increased the demand for these products. Kapil Gulati, director, Consumer Segment, Sennheiser Electronics India, shares with Telangana Today the changing market trends in India and the upcoming opportunities.
Home entertainment
With premium video-on-demand becoming an economic and logistical necessity due to the closure of movie theatres, the pandemic acted as an accelerant that has moved entertainment consumption to home. Customers have started looking for more ways to consume content and realised the importance of investing in smart audio solutions for in-home entertainment. This has led to a shift in the perception of home theatre systems becoming a necessity rather than a luxury. Additionally, with wireless streaming of audio content currently driving the market, we believe that immersive audio is poised to be the future of the audio-visual industry as it enables people to hear audio from every corner. Increasing penetration of subscription-based platforms is further complementing the growth of soundbars as they provide an enhanced sound quality to the viewers. Seeing this trend, we forayed into the home entertainment speaker category with the Ambeo Soundbar.
India market
India is one of the key markets for Sennheiser. Indian consumers are evolving and are at par with global counterparts. Keeping this in mind, we launched several products including our flagship model- Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless-2. To provide more choices to our customers, we introduced a mix of premium and affordable headphones and earphones such as PXC 550-II, HD 450BT and CX 350BT. We plan to further expand our product portfolio. The work from home and learn from home model has also provided extra stimulus to the already robust demand for headphones and ‘Truly Wireless’ earbuds, especially noise cancellation audio devices.
Soundbar segment
The global soundbar market was valued at $5,094 million in 2020, and it is expected to reach $8,302 million by 2026, registering a CAGR of 8.6 per cent, from 2021 to 2026. The increase in content consumption and multi-room streaming are identified as the prime reasons driving the soundbar market growth during the next few years. At present, US, China and Germany are the top three markets for Sennheiser. The Indian home entertainment market too is growing for us.
Up mix technology
One of the unique features of our Ambeo Soundbar is that even in the absence of Dolby Atmos content, the new age technology ‘up mixes’ the stereo content to Ambeo. Collating 75 years of research, we were able to perfect this innovation of ‘up mixing’ to give quality and immersive audio experience to users. Through room calibration, the soundbar optimises the sound for the individual room and preferred seating position, giving you the best immersive audio experience. It is powered by 13 drivers with the latest virtualisation technology which works as virtual speakers, recreating surround sound.
Product pipeline
We have a few products lined up for this year that are curated keeping in mind the ongoing trends and demands from our customers. We are expecting to launch a range of new true wireless stereo, soundbar, audiophile products in the next 6-9 months.
