Hyderabad: As notifications for the competitive exams are likely to be released soon, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy directed State universities to make special arrangements to help students prepare for various competitive exams and said the government would immediately release necessary grants.
During the Telangana State Universities Vice-Chancellors conference held here on Wednesday, Sabitha instructed varsities to set up special cells to impart job related skills to students. She wanted the universities to accord priority to the research and said research experience leads to quality teaching and enhances quality in higher education.
She urged the varsities officials to network with scientific institutions and other government departments to lead important research programmes in the emerging fields. The Minister asked the universities to identify the areas that would have impact on the future society and accordingly design the courses and encourage students.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar said the government was ready to bring back past glory of the universities besides making them the best. A committee comprising Vice Chancellors would be constituted for seeking suggestions on setting high standards in the universities, he said.
Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Chairman, Prof R Limbadri made a presentation about the higher education scenario in the State and steps being taken up by TSCHE in this regard. He also urged the VCs to explore the possibilities of academic quality enhancement and improve the linkages with industry.
An e-office of TSCHE, Osmania University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad and Kakatiya University was launched on the occasion. Secretary to the Education department, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, TSCHE Vice Chairman, Prof. V Venkata Ramana and Commissioner of Intermediate Education, Syed Omer Jaleel among others attended the meeting.
