A lot of fathers are known to walk away from all other parenting duties apart from providing for financially. And how does this affect kids? A lack of father-child intimacy can lead to multiple problems in adulthood ranging from social anxiety, low self-esteem, depression and food obsession, especially in daughters.
As per a grief counsellor and therapist based out of California, fathers provide their daughters with a masculine example. “They teach their kids about boundaries and respect, and help put daughters at ease with other men throughout their lives. So, if she didn’t grow up with a proper example, she will have less insight and be more likely to go for a man that will replicate the abandonment of her father,” shared Caitlin Marvaso to wehavekids.com.
Experts also point out that being an ideal father is not all about being a ‘manly man’. It is about connecting with their kids emotionally and doing their best to spend quality time with them.
And that’s exactly what fathers of this generation are doing. Take, for instance, Maroon 5’s lead singer Adam Levine who was recently appreciated by netizens for his parenting skills. The Memories hitmaker set new dad goals as he shared photos of himself on Instagram wearing a dress with his two little daughters and wife Behati Prinsloo. Four-year-old Dusty Rose and three-year-old Gio Grace and their parents wore cute matching tie-dye dresses.
Levine captioned the viral photo, “Girls just wanna have fun”, paired with a nail-painting emoji. The comments on the pic ranged from “obsessed” to “the things dad got to do for their baby girls”.
Channing Tatum also spoke about how fathers shouldn’t be afraid to form bonds with their daughters. While he said he was initially unsure, he now knows how to braid his daughter’s hair and paint her nails. “I paint my face, I wear tutus – rarely am I around the house without some sort of costume on,” the actor told today.com.
“Guys, I don’t know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine. I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7-year-old daughter’s room. And I ended up finding my inner child. So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me,” he wrote on Instagram about writing a book titled Sparkella inspired by his daughter Everly Tatum.
Another girl dad Brad Cubbie went viral on Twitter a few weeks ago after he shared photos of his daughters trying makeup on him. Following suit, several other fathers of daughters shared their own experiences of getting makeovers done by their little princesses. Way to go, dads!
