Sevalal Maharaj reformer of banjara community: Errabelli

Recalling the services of banjara community spiritual leader Sant Sevalal Maharaj in connection with his birth anniversary, the Minister said the former launched several reforms in the society

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao upgraded banjara thandas into Gram Panchayats and ensured their self-respect, said Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said on Monday.

Recalling the services of banjara community spiritual leader Sant Sevalal Maharaj in connection with his birth anniversary, the Minister said the former launched several reforms in the society. Sevalal Maharaj had asked people to speak truth, give up violence, and not to steal, he added.

Sevalal Maharaj wanted the people to stay away from vices and explained 22 different types of reforms to the banjaras, the Minister said adding that the spiritual leader underscored the need to preserve forests and protect the environment, Rao said.

Sevalal Maharaj, who advised people not to believe in superstitions, fought against the British rule. The Minister requested the banjaras to support the Chief Minister, who is striving for the welfare of the banjara community in the State.
