Adilabad: Seven persons were arrested for allegedly transporting explosives illegally from Uttar Pradesh to Telangana. Police seized 20,000 electronic detonators, 90 boosters, two vehicles and six mobile phones. The explosives were valued at Rs 20 lakh.

Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan told reporters on Thursday that Chepyala Parashuram of Boduppal in Medchal, Pallepu Teja, Kasturi Sunil and Sura Ranjith, all from Bheemadevarapalli in Hanamkonda district, Kadam Shravan of Veenavanka, and Pagala Sampath Reddy and Kasturi Madhu Kiram, both from Shankarapatnam mandal in Karimnagar district, were arrested for transporting the explosives.

The seven were found transporting the explosives in a vehicle at a toll plaza in Pipperawada during a vehicle check. Two more persons, MD Wahid and Ravi Kumar, were booked for their alleged roles in the offence.

During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to transporting the explosives for quick profits. They allegedly told investigators that they sold them at higher prices to granite quarries, stone-crushing units and mines. They said they procured the explosives from Ravi Kumar of Uttar Pradesh.

Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, Jainath CI Shravan Kumar, CCS Inspector Chandrashekhar and SI P Gouthamm were present.
