Seven held for stealing cotton from farmers in Adilabad

Adilabad: Seven persons were arrested on charges of stealing cotton produce from farms in different parts of Boath mandal on Monday. Police seized 30 kilograms of cotton and a jeep from them.
Police said that Sunkari Chilukaiah, SK Nasir, Mamidi Srinivas, Ashok, Rajarapa Dattu and SK Shapi, all from Boath mandal centre, were apprehended for decamping with cotton produce harvested by farmers, while Allam Chandar was taken into custody for purchasing it from the accused.
On being interrogated, the six confessed to committing the crime to make a fast buck by forming a gang. They admitted to stealing cotton from farms at night. Allam Chandar revealed that he purchased the stolen cotton from the six at lower prices than the market rate. Their act was exposed when a farmer lodged a complaint with the police, who took up an investigation.
