Hyderabad: The Saifabad police arrested a seven member gang who snatched away Rs.5,000 and mobile phones from a group of migrant workers early on Sunday.
The arrested persons are identified as Mohammed Sohail, Mohd Moin, Syed Nadeem, Shaik Jafar, Sohail Khan, Shaik Mohsin and Mohammed Haji Pasha. They formed into a gang and were targeting migrant workers who came to the State from other parts of the country and looted them.
On Sunday, the victims had arrived from Madhya Pradesh and got down at Domalguda from a private bus. “On pretext of arranging their travel through private buses to Karimnagar, the suspects took them in an auto rickshaw to Salam Namaste travel agency at Lakdikapul and demanded high fares. When the victims refused to pay the amount, the gang harassed, beat and confined them,” said incharge DCP (Central) P Vishwa Prasad.
On a complaint from one of the victim Mundar Kol, who was robbed of the cash and mobile phones, the police booked a case and arrested the seven persons.
“Mundar and his six colleagues were picked up by auto rickshaw drivers Moin and Sohail and taken to Salaam Namaste travels where the other persons harassed and snatched away money from them,” said the DCP.
The gang in previous instances had robbed other migrant workers after picking them from railway stations and bus stations. “A syndicate of auto rickshaw drivers, travel agencies agents and others are involved. They threaten the migrant workers who come to the city from other States on some or the other pretext and take away cash and mobile phones,” he added.
