Seven naxals killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh

Kothagudem: Seven naxals were killed in an encounter between the CPI (Maoist) cadres and security forces in south Abujahmad of Bastar area in Chhattisgarh State on Thursday.
A joint party of special task force (STF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur, Kondagaon districts went to the Abujahmad area in anti-naxal search operation.
Exchange of fire between naxalites and the security forces took place intermittently from 3 am onwards. After the firing was ceased the security personnel recovered bodies of seven uniformed naxalites until afternoon hours. The encounter and search operation are going on and casualties on the naxal side are expected to increase.
It might be noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to tour Chhattisgarh from December 13 to 15. He is expected to hold a high-level meeting to review the security situation.
Shah, who pledged to eliminate PLGA from Chhattisgarh, is visiting the State for the second time in recent times, his last visit to the State was in August. His visit to the State assumed importance in view of increased anti-naxal operations by police in Chhattisgarh as well its border State, Telangana,
According to officials, as many as 230 Maoists have been killed so far this year in encounters in both north Telangana and Bastar range in Chhattisgarh. For Thursday’s anti-naxal operation nearly 1000 personnel have been deployed.
