Hyderabad: This December 31, Telangana people have to ring in the New Year amid a sharp chill temperature, with the State set to experience a cold to severe cold wave.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, temperatures are set to drop significantly in the last week of December. These temperatures will likely prevail until January 3 or 4, 2026.

“The State is likely to experience a cold to severe cold wave in the last days of December. Temperatures less than 10 degree Celsius might be recorded in districts, particularly in Adilabad,” K Nagaratna, head IMD Hyderabad, told Telangana Today.

Given the cyclonic storm Ditwah over the southwest Bay of Bengal, which is very likely to move to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by early morning of November 30, the temperatures in the State are likely to be above the normal for the next couple of days.

Due to this cyclonic storm, a yellow warning has been issued for Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Nagarkurnool districts, indicating heavy rain at isolated places. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in the isolated places in the State.

Hyderabad skies might be generally cloudy, with light rain to drizzle forecast in the next 48 hours. Further, mist/hazy conditions are likely to prevail during the morning or night hours, the IMD said, adding that maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29 degree Celsius and 15 degree Celsius, respectively.

Meanwhile, after a five-day gap, the temperatures in the State dropped. As per the Telangana Development Planning Society, the lowest minimum temperature of 7.8 degree Celsius was registered in Kohir of Sangareddy district. In addition, single-digit temperatures were also recorded in Sirpur (8.3) in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, 9.2 Bheempoor (9.2) Adilabad, Marpalle (9.5) in Vikarabad, and Nasrullabad (9.7) in Kamareddy.

In areas under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits, the lowest minimum temperature of 11.7 degree Celsius was observed at BHEL factory in Sangareddy district.
