Hyderabad: The operation and maintenance (O&M) of the sewerage system in the peripheral circles of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is further being strengthened with Rs 35 crore.

To execute the task, 792 locations, where sewage overflow is more compared to other places in the city have been identified. “At these 792 hotspots, works to fix the sewage overflow will be taken up with Rs 35 crore in two weeks,” said HMWS&SB Managing Director Dana Kishore in a meeting held here on Saturday.

The narrow pipe lines which are unable to take the load resulting in sewage overflow will also be replaced with ones with higher capacity. To address the issues pertaining to sewage overflow, grievance re-addressal is also being strengthened.

The O&M of the sewerage system in the peripheral circles of the GHMC was taken up by the HMWS&SB from October 1. Earlier the work was executed by GHMC. As per HMWS&SB records within 20 days, since the department took over the O&M of sewerage system in the city peripheries, 6,684 complaints were received and 85 per cent have been resolved.
