Khammam: SFI Khammam and Kothagudem district units have strongly condemned the Congress government’s decision to sell off Hyderabad Central University (HCU) lands.

Even as the students under the banner of the HCU SFI committee were peacefully protesting against the sale of university, the Revanth Reddy Congress government was illegally lathi-charging and arresting students. The government cannot stop the struggle by making arrests, the Student Union said.

PDSU State assistant secretary Vanguri Venkatesh alleged that government repression in the State has increased tremendously. He condemned the arrest and detaining of students who were protesting at the university on Sunday.

The activists of SFI and PDSU have staged a protest and burnt an effigy of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem district. SFI and PDSU leaders Shiva Prashant, Bhupender, Ravinder and Ram Charan along with a large number of activists took part in the protest.

They said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and IT Minister D Sridhar Babu have made extremely hostile statements in the Assembly against the students who were protesting demanding not to take the university lands.

In order to prove that the four hundred acres of land was barren, the government engaged a large number of JCBs and bulldozers to destroy biodiversity and uproot plants in the university on Monday.

Revanth Reddy announced in the Assembly that he would save democracy; anyone could meet the Chief Minister and raise their issues, contrary to his statement hundreds of students who were protesting to protect their lands were arrested and taken to different police stations.

SFI and PDSU leaders stated that it was very shameful the girl students were dragged by their hair by police, pushing them into the police vans causing injuries, they warned that if the circular on auctioning the lands was not withdrawn immediately they would lay a siege to the Chief Minister’s house.
