Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Thursday demanded that the Central government take up delimitation exercise in both the Telugu States just as they were doing in the case of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, Shashidhar Reddy said as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, there was a provision to increase the number of Assembly seats from 119 to 153 in Telangana and from 175 to 225 in Andhra Pradesh.
The process of increasing the number of seats will be subject to the provisions of Article 170 and this will have to be amended. Now, that the process for delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir is being expedited, similar exercise needs to be taken up here in Telugu States, he demanded.
“I have written to the Chief Ministers of both the Telugu States to personally pursue this issue in the larger interest of the people” said Shashidhar Reddy.
