Shubman Gill named India Test captain, Ravindra Jadeja vice-captain for West Indies series

Shubman Gill will captain India in the two-Test series against West Indies, with Ravindra Jadeja as vice-captain. Rishabh Pant is unavailable due to injury. The series begins October 2 in Ahmedabad as part of the 2025-27 World Test Championship.

Hyderabad: Shubman Gill, who led India to a drawn series in his maiden stint as Test captain in England recently, has been named captain and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja vice-captain for the series against West Indies.

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has not recovered fully to be named in the squad. Otherwise, the Indian team for the Test series against West Indies sports almost a familiar look with Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel as the three spin-bowling all-rounders, as well as Kuldeep Yadav. Nitish Kumar Reddy is the fast-bowling allrounder, with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna the frontline quicks

India takes on West Indies in the Test series starting in Ahmedabad on October 2 and in Delhi from October 10.

This will also be the second series in the 2025-27 World Test Championship series for India.
Notable absentees from the team that toured England are Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran who was a ‘spectator’ throughout the tour sitting on the bench.

For the record, India so far collected 28 points (46.67) out of the maximum 60 from the five-Test series in England while Australia and Sri Lanka are above them with 100 nd 66.67 percentage respectively.And, West Indies have zero percentage, having lost three Tests to Australia in June-July.
