Shubman Gill to lead India in ODI series against Afghanistan
Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya were included in India’s ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, subject to fitness clearance. Shubman Gill will captain the side, while KL Rahul replaces Rishabh Pant as vice-captain of the Indian Test team

Hyderabad: Former World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya were named in the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
However, their availability depends on fitness tests, according to BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, who chaired the selection meeting in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Shubman Gill will lead the side in the ODI series, while Shreyas Iyer will be the vice-captain.
Virat Kohli is also included for the white-ball series, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the wicketkeeping options. There are some new faces in the squad, with Gurnoor Brar, Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey also included in the 15-member team.
Interestingly, Rahul replaced Rishabh Pant as vice-captain of the Indian Test team led by Gill. Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been rested for the Test match.
The squads were announced in Guwahati for the home series against Afghanistan. The tour includes a one-off Test in Mullanpur starting on June 6, followed by three ODIs from June 14 in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai.
Spinner Manav Suthar and pacer Gurnoor Brar have earned maiden call-ups to the Test squad. Both are teammates at IPL franchise Gujarat Titans, while Prince Yadav is the new face in the ODI line-up, with Ishan Kishan named as the second wicketkeeper.
