Kothagudem: Shyamala Educational Society, established in the name of US Vice President Kamala Harris’s mother, Dr Shyamala Gopalan, is aiming to contribute to the field of education in the country, said society founder N Suresh Reddy.
The society opened its registered office in the State at Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad and its inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday in the presence of over fifty leaders from various fields like education, healthcare and social service, he said in a statement here.
MP Komati Reddy Venkata Reddy, Chairman-Dargah Committee, Ajmer and Rajasthan Cricket Association vice president Amin Pathan, BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, MLA Danam Nagender and a renowned realtor Shilpa Pratap Reddy took part in the inauguration ceremony.
Society owes its inception to the inspiration provided by Dr Shyamala Gopalan, an Indian woman hailing from Tamil Nadu who continues to inspire many women throughout the world even today, years after she passed away.
Apart from her significant contribution to breast cancer research and human rights protection in the US, Dr Gopalan also happens to be the most significant influence on her daughter, Kamala Harris, said Suresh Reddy, who hails from Paloncha in Kothagudem district.
Suresh Reddy said that the society intended to contribute to the field of education in India with its prestigious international school project, Sri World School. The school would come up in an area spanning over 100 acres. The school would serve the educational needs of students who intend to shape their future through the international curriculum in India while being affordable to everyone in society.
The school offers both CBSE and IB curricula. The society would also support aspiring students from the Economically Backward Class (EBC) who will be provided financial assistance, Suresh Reddy added.
