Siddipet: Celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Siddipet district’s formation began on Friday with a 10K run that saw thousands of people participate following a call by former minister T Harish Rao.
Speaking after flagging off the run at Government Degree College, Harish Rao said the demand for a separate Siddipet district had persisted for more than 40 years. He recalled that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had submitted a representation to then Chief Minister NT Rama Rao at the Ambedkar statue in 1983, seeking the creation of Siddipet district.
Harish Rao noted that Chandrashekhar Rao himself signed the government orders (GOs) announcing the formation of Siddipet and other new districts in 2016, 33 years after the representation was submitted.
He said residents of Siddipet had been forced to travel nearly 150 km to Sangareddy, the headquarters of the erstwhile Medak district, before Siddipet district was formed in 2016.
The former minister said the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had brought an end to these difficulties. He added that Siddipet had undergone significant transformation during the BRS government’s 10-year tenure.
Harish Rao said Chandrashekhar Rao had also fulfilled the promises of bringing Godavari water and rail connectivity to Siddipet within a decade.
Claiming that the BRS had developed Siddipet into an education hub, Harish Rao listed several institutions established in the district, including a medical college, nursing college, pharmacy college, paramedical college, polytechnic college, B Pharmacy college, women’s college, postgraduate college and management college.
He said the BRS would establish a university in Siddipet district after returning to power in 2028.
Citizens from across the district enthusiastically participated in the 10K run. The BRS is organising three days of celebrations to mark the formation of Siddipet district on October 11, 2016. Several programmes will be held at the district headquarters over the next three days.
