Siddipet: Setting an example to others in donating blood, the police personnel of Siddipet district was responding immediately to messages and calls from people who were in serious need of blood.

When the Covid-19 was at its peak in the year 2020-21, not many have responded to the calls of blood donation. The stocks at the blood banks went dry. However, the Siddipet police personnel responded to several calls. During the year 2020, as many as 396 personnel working in various police stations and police headquarters have donated blood. In addition to that, 98 personnel have donated plasma. During the year 2021, as many as 201 Police personnel have donated blood and 39 donated plasma. Some of the constables and other police personnel have donated blood multiple times. As many as 1,331 police personnel are working in Siddipet district.

Apart from donating blood, they were also conducting regular blood donation camps to motivate the locals towards blood donation. When the citizens need blood in their locality, they are now making calls to constables in the Siddipet district. In case of the unavailability of any police personnel to donate, the constables are contacting youth under their respective police station’s limits and motivating them to donate blood. Even the hospitals, blood banks and NGOs working on the blood donation were contacting the local police seeking their help if they are in emergency of blood.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Constable Mallikarjuna Reddy said whenever they receive any request seeking blood, they will immediately post the messages in the local police station social media groups. Any personnel who were having a suitable blood group will rush to the hospital to donate the blood. He further said that they will send the same message to village youth groups and neighbouring police stations if they don’t find a suitable group blood donor in the local police station. Dasari Shekar, Jagadish, Bhanu and Goverdhan Reddy are among those who donated the blood multiple times during the past two years.
