Siddipet: Siddipet got its first Swachha Badi in the entire South India where the citizens and children will be educated about waste management with an aim to reduce, recycle and compost the waste.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who inaugurated the Swachha Badi on Sunday, has said that the waste is going to become one of the greatest disasters if we fail to learn how to dispose of and treat the various kinds of waste.

To make the people involved in waste management, Rao has said that they will invite the people to Siddipet where specially trained teachers will sensitise on the need to restrict the waste, segregate the waste and dispose of it.

The Minister has roped in the services of resource person Dr Shanthi, who was known for her work in waste management and community involvement in waste management in Bangalore, has executed the project of Swachha Badi.

Saying that they will set up ward level compost yards to make organic fertiliser out of waste, Rao has said that they will also train the women in making the new things with waste.

Stating that they wanted to make each house as a zero waste producing home, Rao has said that they will encourage the citizens to start compost making at all the homes gradually by providing support. Since they were also educating the people to start growing rooftop gardens, he has said that the same compost can be used on rooftop gardens.”The effort will not only restrict the waste being produced from each house and also help the citizens grow their own organic vegetables at their home, he observed.

As the Siddipet town is generating a gigantic 40 metric tonnes of waste everyday, the Minister has said that they have aimed to reduce it considerably by involving the citizens at various levels. He has observed that nothing would be possible without the active involvement of the citizens.
