Siddipet woman 44 years of wait to ser husband ended on tragic note as her husband died in Dubai
In a heartbreaking turn of events, 65-year-old Lakshmi from Medak received the body of her husband, Boddu Chandraiah, who went missing in Dubai 44 years ago. Lakshmi spent decades working as a laborer while taking care of his family.
Medak: At a time when women killing their husbands or fiancees for various reasons were flashing all over the newspapers and TV channels every day, a 65-year-old woman had waited for 44-long years to see her husband.
The man Boddu Chandraiah (70) married Lakshmi (65) some 46 years ago. However, Chandraiah, a poor man from Chellapur in Dubbak mandal, had migrated to Dubai in search of livelihood. He wanted to earn some money by working there for a few years and had plans to return to spend his remaining life happily with his wife. However, fate had other plans.
The couple had no children when Chandraiah left Lakshmi 44 years ago, but Lakshmi continued to stay with Chandraiah’s parents and took care of them by working as a daily wager. The family even lost contact with Chandraiah a couple of years after he left for Dubai.
In the absence of Chandraiah, Lakshmi even performed the funeral of her father-in-law and mother-in-law. As Chandraiah’s younger brother and sister also died, Lakshmi performed the funeral. However, she never lost the hope of seeing Chandraiah again and continued to stay at her husband’s house for all these years. She never got a rupee from Chandraiah during all these years, but she used to enquire with people, who returned from Dubai, about the whereabouts of her husband.
Finally, she got a call from the Indian embassy a week ago who informed her that Chandraiah’s dead body was lying in a local hospital. Chandraiah reportedly died on May 27. However, the Indian embassy took a few days to track his details and locate Lakshmi here. The body was sent to Hyderabad on Wednesday. After receiving the body, Lakshmi broke down as Chandraiah’s death left all her hopes dashed.
Speaking on the occasion, Lakshmi said that she lived all these years with a hope of seeing her husband live again. However, she said that he made her alone now. Their kin and villagers performed the funeral. The villagers hailed the woman’s commitment to marriage and love towards her husband. Lakshmi was living on Rs 2,000 old age pension now.
