Adilabad: Sighting of a honey badger ((Mellivora capensis), recorded on a CCTV camera created flutter in Indervelli mandal centre on Saturday.
Locals said that a rare wild animal was seen climbing a gate of a house as per the footage recorded on Friday night. They expressed concern over their safety following movement of the animal. They stated that it was feeding on stray dogs, triggering panic.
They requested forest and police officials to identify the animal.
Forest officials who saw the video confirmed that the animal was a honey badger. They stated that it would not harm humans. It feeds on rodents, snakes and frogs.
They requested the public to be cautious and not to panic. A special team was formed to track movement of the animal, Indervelli FRO Santosh stated.
