HYDERABAD: PV Sindhu brushed aside her recent disappointing run, with a brilliant, hard-fought 22-20, 21-23, 21-15 win against Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the Round 32 match of the Indonesian Open badminton championship on Tuesday.

The two-time Olympic medallist from Hyderabad seemed good to clinch the issue in two games but was surprised by a spirited Okuhara who took the issue into the decider.

Continuing to lead for the most part of the third game, Sindhu made sure that there was enough distance between her and Okuhara to help her enter the second round of the BWF Super 1000 event.

However, in men’s singles, the other India’s top shuttler Lakshya Sen suffered a first-round exit when he lost to China’s Shi Yu Qui 11-21,22-020, 15-21, which also happened to be his fifth first round loss this year on the BWF Tour.

Amongst other results, Anupama Upadhyaya bowed out after a straight-games loss against South Korea’s Kim Ga Eun.
