Hyderabad: For the 20-odd sparring partners at Suchitra Badminton Academy it was time to bid good bye and wish the Indian star PV Sindhu for the Tokyo Olympics.
With the Indian team leaving for Tokyo on July 17 for the quadrennial event, Suchitra Academy, where Sindhu has been training and playing with these sparring partners for the last months or so, arranged a small cake-cutting event to the Rio Games silver medalist.
Pradeep Raju of Suchitra Academy said the players wanted to give this small farewell to Sindhu. “They have been training with Sindhu. It has quite an intensive practice session all these days. It was based on skill-based programme where different players played against Sindhu”. Among the players were Utkarsh Aurora and Sourabh Verma, winners of two gold medals in the national level tournament.
Sindhu thanked the Academy, particularly Pradeep and Praveen Raju, for providing the facilities for her preparation to the Tokyo Olympics. “I will always remember this lovely academy which has allowed me to train and practice. These sparring partners gave me intensive practice sessions in the last two months,’’ she said.
