Singareni to set up Methanol plant at thermal power station
The plant will collect 500 kg of carbon dioxide per day from the gas emitted by burning coal in Singareni Thermal Power Station, compress it with hydrogen gas and obtain methanol liquid. The plant will produce about 180 kg of methanol per day.
Hyderabad:Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is planning to set up a Methanol Manufacturing Plant at the Singareni thermal power station situated at Pegadapalli village in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district.
According to a statement issued here on Monday, the proposed plant would produce methanol from carbon dioxide gas generated from the Singareni thermal power station. The plant will collect 500 kg of carbon dioxide per day from the gas emitted by burning coal in Singareni Thermal Power Station, compress it with hydrogen gas and obtain methanol liquid. The plant will produce about 180 kg of methanol per day.
Singareni Chairman and Managing Director N Balram informed that the construction of the plant had already started and would be completed by December 31.
The construction of the plant was undertaken with the financial support of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited, a Coal India’s affiliated research unit. Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research and Breathe Applied Sciences Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, were entrusted with the responsibility of construction and operation of the plant. The construction of this plant will cost around Rs. 20 crore.
