Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) had decided to start mining operations in the new open cast projects (OCPs) – GDK open cast, Naini coal block in Odisha and JVR OCP – by the end of this financial year.

It has also decided to open five new OCPs in various divisions during the next financial year. The new OCPs would be opened at Ramagundam, Kothagudem, Bellampalle, Yellandu and Goleti areas.

The SCCL has decided to produce at least 200 lakh metric tonnes of coal in the first year after opening OCPs. At a meeting with directors, area general managers and others at Singareni Bhavan here on Friday, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar said they secured some clearances for opening new OCPs.

However, the SCCL has to take up land acquisition and secure other permissions before commencing operations. Asking officials to secure all clearances for new OCPs by March 2022, he advised them to sort out issues pertaining to land acquisition and resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) packages.

He also instructed officials to secure necessary machinery and contracts for removal of overburden. Stating that the Singareni had set a record coal production of 75 million tonnes during the year 2022-2023, he said that they would have to remove 500 million cubic meters of overburden from OCPs.

Sridhar reviewed steady progress of coal mining and its transportation and the supply of explosives to OCPs to intensify the mining operations.
