SIR 2026: Telangana voters struggle to trace 2002 electoral roll records

Several voters in Telangana are facing difficulties linking their SIR 2026 enumeration forms with the 2002 electoral rolls due to Telugu-only records, spelling variations in English names and challenges in locating polling station details and serial numbers.

Hyderabad: From spelling errors in English names to names being only in Telugu, several voters filling their enumeration forms, as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls in the State, are facing an uphill task in tracing and linking their details to the SIR 2002 record.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has hosted the SIR 2002 list on the State election department website https://voters.eci.gov.in. The list can also be found on the ECI app ECINET using the “Search by Electoral Details” option.

The voters have been asked to trace their records from the previous SIR and link them to present one. Persons who were not voters back then but are voters now have to link their records with their parents/guardians from the 2002 list. This tracing has become a herculean task.

According to the voters who could successfully fill the enumeration form, except for Hyderabad districts, SIR 2002 list details, particularly names, are available only in Telugu. As not all keyboards support Telugu typing, the voters are forced to depend on Google or other applications to translate their details, such as names, from English to Telugu to search in the list.

As for Hyderabad district, the names, as per the voters, have been translated from Telugu to English. Several voters report their inability to search for details due to spelling variations in names that were lost in the translation. “Given variance in the spellings in Telugu and English, it is taking a lot of time to search for names. After searching with different spellings, I was finally able to find my parents’ details,” said Srikanth, a voter.

Another major issue the voters report is searching for the polling booth and serial numbers in the SIR 2002 list. “Since I was not a voter in 2002, I had to link it to my parents’ voter records, who are voters in Musheerabad constituency. My parents have a polling station in Nallakunta, which also covers parts of Himayatnagar. After searching for five days, I managed to find my parents’ details in the Musheerabad polling station records,” said a voter.
