SIR: What documents Telangana voters need to submit based on date of birth

As the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls progresses in Telangana, voters receiving notices must submit documents based on their date and place of birth. The Election Commission has specified different requirements for those born before and after July 1, 1987.

Hyderabad: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is underway in the State, with lakhs of voters receiving notices for discrepancies in their details and not linking with the SIR 2002 list. However, documents a voter needs to submit in response to the notice depends on when and where they were born.

If an elector was born in India before July 1, 1987, he/she has to submit a document for self from the listed 12 documents of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

If born between July 1, 1987 and December 2, 2004, such electors must provide documents for self and either of parents from the listed 12 documents of the ECI.

Similarly, if an elector was born after December 2, 2004, he/she should produce documents for himself/herself and both parents from the listed 12 documents of the ECI. If any parent is not Indian, such voter should provide a copy of his/her valid passport and visa at time of their birth.

Further, voters who were born outside India must attach proof of birth registration issued by the Indian Mission abroad. If acquired Indian citizenship by registration/naturalisation, such individuals should attach a certificate of registration of citizenship.

List of supportive documents:

* Any Identity card/Pension Payment Order issued to a regular employee/pensioner of any Central Govt./State Govt./PSU

* Any Identity Card/Certificate/Document issued in India by the Government/ local authorities/Banks/Post Office/LIC/PSUs prior to 01.07.1987
* Birth Certificate issued by the competent authority4. Passport

* Matriculation/Educational certificate issued by recognised Boards/Universities

* Permanent Residence certificate issued by the competent State authority

* Forest Right Certificate

* OBC/SC/ST or any caste certificate issued by the Competent Authority

* National Register of Citizens (wherever it exists)

* Family Register, prepared by State/Local authorities.

* Any land/house allotment certificate by the Government

* For Aadhaar, the Commission’s directions issued vide letter No. 23/2025-ERS/Vol.II dated 09.09.2025 (Annexure II) will apply
