Sirisha Memorial Trust hostel warden arrested after six students drown in Sangareddy

Six students drowned in a lake at Pedda Kanjerla during Ganesh immersion on Wednesday evening. Sangareddy Collector Prateek Jain announced Rs two lakh ex gratia for each bereaved family, while Patancheru police arrested hostel warden Jayaprakash for alleged negligence.

Sangareddy: Sangareddy Collector Prateek Jain, who visited Pedda Kanjerla village where the six students drowned in a lake during Ganesh immersion on Wednesday evening, announced Rs two lakh ex gratia to the bereaved family members of each of the six students who drowned in the lake.

The Collector interacted with the students and staff to know the exact reason for the incident.

Meanwhile, the Patancheru police arrested the warden of Sirisha Memorial Charitable Trust-run hostel, Jayaprakash, on the charge of negligence. Jayaprakash was sent to remand after he was produced before a court.

Meanwhile, the officials were making arrangements to shift the dead bodies to their native places. While two deceased were from Vijayawada, two students were from Warangal district. The remaining two students were residents of Kukatpally area in Hyderabad. Krishnamraju, the owner of Nagarjuna Constructions, was running the Trust near Pedda Kanjerla in Patancheru mandal. The Trust provides accommodation to orphaned, semi-orphaned and poor students.
