Kothagudem: Six Maoists, including one female cadre, surrendered before Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju here on Tuesday, taking the tally of Maoist surrenders in the district this year to 326.
Speaking to the media, the SP said the surrendered Maoists include three party members, two militia members, and one CNM cadre. Attracted by the Telangana government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy along with welfare activities under ‘Operation Cheyutha’ carried out by the district police in collaboration with CRPF 81 and 141 Battalions, the Maoists decided to embrace a peaceful life and live with their families.
So far, among the 326 Maoists surrendered, there were four DVCMs, 22 ACMs, 44 party members, 122 militia members, 35 RPC members, 47 DKMS/KMS members, 31 CNM members, and 21 GRD members. All of them received rehabilitation support from the government.
Under Operation Cheyutha, extensive developmental activities such as improving road connectivity, schools, hospitals, drinking water, and electricity supply are being carried out. Steps are also being taken to ensure quality education and medical services in remote tribal areas, the SP said.
Rohith Raju urged tribal communities to understand that extending cooperation to Maoist groups, whether due to belief or fear, would not lead to progress. Only through democratically elected governments can real development be achieved.
The six cadres who surrendered on Tuesday will be given immediate assistance of Rs 25,000 each. The remaining financial support, based on their respective ranks, will be transferred to their bank accounts upon submission of Aadhaar and bank details, he added.
