Hyderabad: The Suraram police solved a kidnapping case within 48 hours, rescuing a six-month-old baby girl and arresting five persons for the crime on Wednesday.
The arrested persons are Sridevi (35), Karthik (18) and Johnson (24), along with two juveniles, all residents of Rajendranagar and originally from Karnataka.
According to police, the infant was abducted in the early hours of May 4 from near Narayana Malla Reddy Hospital while she was sleeping beside her mother, Navaneetha, on a footpath.
Based on her complaint, a case was registered and four special teams were formed to trace the child.
Police said Sridevi allegedly planned the kidnapping to give the baby to her relative who had no children. The group conducted reconnaissance near the hospital a day before the crime and returned at night. When the family fell asleep, two of the suspects abducted the infant and fled on a motorcycle.
Using CCTV footage and technical evidence, police traced and apprehended the accused near Royal Hyatt Function Hall in Rajendranagar on Tuesday night. The baby was rescued safely.
Police also seized a motorcycle and five mobile phones from them.
