Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Friday questioned six suspects in connection with the Telugu Akademi case.
Following a local court’s order allowing two-day custody, Satyanarayana Rao, Sai Kumar, Venkataramana, Somashekharm Venkat and Ramesh, who are currently lodged in the Central Prison in Chanchalguda, were taken into custody and questioned at the CCS office. Of the 24 persons arrested in the fraud case until now, these suspects allegedly played a pivotal role in diverting the funds of the organisation.
“Fake accounts in the name of the Telugu Akademi were opened by accepting fake identity proofs. A detailed inquiry needs to be made as to where they had diverted the funds. They are believed to have shared the money and invested at various places,” police said.
Earlier, based on a complaint from the Akademi director, a case was booked with regard to fixed deposits amounting to Rs.63 crore in different banks being cancelled and the amount being transferred to various banks in the city illegally. Police said the investigation revealed that the AP Mercantile Cooperative Credit Society Ltd had received the amount.
