Sangareddy: Ganesh immersion turned tragic as six teenagers drowned in a lake during Ganesh idol immersion at Pedda Kanjerla village under Patancheru police station limits on Wednesday evening. The deceased are stated to be students of Sirisha Charitable Trust located at Inole village in Patancheru mandal.

The inmates of the Charitable Trust went to Neruducherla lake for immersing the Ganesh idol. The students, unaware of a massive pit underneath the water, walked deep into the water and drowned. While nine students ventured into the water, three of them, who could swim, managed to save themselves and swam back to the shore.

The deceased students were identified as Narasimha Raju (18), Sumanth (19), Ganesh (20), Uday Kumar (21), Sham Kumar (18) and Siddharth (16). While the first five students were studying for Polytechnic diplomas, Siddharth was in Class 10. Further details regarding them were awaited.

The incident left the students in shock. The police, with the help of locals, retrieved the bodies. The students, who came to the place dancing and playing throughout the procession, were inconsolable as six of them died. The bodies were taken to the government hospital in Patancheru. The police registered a case and the probe was on.
