Sloth bear trapped in snare rescued in Mancherial

Mancherial: A female adult sloth bear that got caught in an iron snare was rescued by Forest department officials from the forest near Gudipet village in Hajipur mandal on Sunday.

Foresters said the anteater was stuck in the wire noose while it was quenching its thirst at a water body in the forest. A rescue team from Warangal was roped in and the bear was rescued. Some wildlife hunters set the snare to kill deer and other herbivores that come to the water body in summer.

The injured bear was later shifted to Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, where veterinarians performed a surgery and amputated a part of the foot of the wild animal. The bear is now under observation, according to Dr. Praveen Kumar of Nehru Zoological Park.
