Smart toilets to analyse urine and stool samples at AIG Hospitals
AIG Hospitals is developing smart toilets to automatically collect and analyse urine and stool samples for continuous health monitoring. The hospital is also setting up a Gut Microbial Laboratory, highlighting the growing importance of gut microbiome research in medicine

Hyderabad: Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) is developing state-of-the-art smart toilets that will automatically collect and analyse urine and stool samples for continuous health monitoring.
“AIG will be the first hospital in India to install such smart toilets. We are also setting up a dedicated Gut Microbial Laboratory to deepen research in this field,” Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, founder chairman of AIG Hospitals, said during a talk at a colloquium on women’s health, ‘Health Conclave-Wellness 360’, on Tuesday.
During his talk at the conclave, organised by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), Hyderabad chapter, and AIG Hospitals, Dr Nageshwar Reddy stressed the importance of gut microbiome. “The next big thing in medicine is the gut microbiome,” he said.
Eminent doctors from various hospitals, including senior surgical gastroenterologist Dr G V Rao, gynecologist Dr Rooma Sinha, senior surgical oncologist Dr T Subramaneshwar Rao and others, were present.
