Hyderabad: A massive Covid-19 vaccination drive, for people who have been categorised as high risk groups, began in the city on Friday. Around 21,666 persons were administered the vaccine in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits for free. The drive started at 8 am and continued till evening. Elaborate arrangements were made and most of the people vaccinated were hawkers, people working in grocery shops and e-commerce staffers and delivery executives.

Tokens distributed by GHMC employees were checked at the entrance of the vaccination centre following which the beneficiary was allowed inside. Their name, occupation, date and venue of the vaccination centre were written on the token.

Most of the vaccination centres were partitioned into three segments – registration desk, vaccination centre and waiting area. Sandhya Convention, Gachibowli, one such centre where dozens of counters were set up to administer the vaccine, also had a couple of beds in case a person feels dizzy. At the Banjara Lake View Function Hall vaccination centre located on Banjara Hills Road number 11, civic officials were also seen enquiring about the health of people post vaccination.

Meanwhile, GHMC officials and police monitored the process at the vaccination centres and surprise visits were made by Ministers, MLAs and top bureaucrats. At the Goshamahal centre, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar made a surprise visit.
