Nagarkurnool: Customers of a toddy compound had a shock of their lives, as one of them noticed a snake in one of the toddy bottles in Lattupally village in Bijinepallly mandal here on Thursday night.

The customer took a couple of gulps from the bottle and later noticed a small snake floating in the toddy bottle. Alarmed over this, he and other customers picked up an argument with the toddy shop managers and as arguments continued, the customers damaged the furniture and toddy bottles.

The dead snake, possibly a crait, was six to eight inches long. The customer who took a swig from the bottle, was made to vomit by his fellow customers, who feared for his life. The customers claimed that it was a venomous snake.

Enraged customers argued with the toddy shop owner and they could not be placated with the offer of fresh bottles of toddy. They ended up damaging the shop and breaking the toddy bottles.

Meanwhile, a video in which woman was questioning the excise officials over their negligence was going viral on social media platforms. Who should be held responsible for this act, the woman is heard saying. She claimed that she rushed to the toddy compound after being told about the snake and how her son consumed some toddy from the same bottle.

Despite all the villagers identifying it as a snake the shop owner tried to mislead arguing it was a blade of grass. The shop owner should have informed the Excise depot and immediately the toddy sale should have been stopped, she says.

“Had our people consumed the toddy and died, who should be held responsible,” the woman questioned.
