Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) phase I was being taken up with a cost of Rs. 985.45 crore in GHMC areas, sans any contribution from Centre.

The SNDP was launched to improve storm water drain network and to address urban flooding in the city. Over 60 works were proposed as part of SNDP phase I. Of these, nearly Rs.735 crore worth works were being executed in GHMC limits and about Rs.250 crore was being spent in surrounding ULBs, including Jalpally and Kompally, he said during question hour in the Assembly here on Saturday. The Minister said proposals were being prepared for SNDP Phase II works also.

He told ruling party legislator K Venkatesh that there was zero contribution from Centre to the programme. However, when financial assistance was sought from Central Government for execution of SNDP phase II works, the State Government was asked to include the works under Amrut phase II works. Amrut phase II funds were allocated to cities, which have one lakh population but Hyderabad has a population of over one crore. The Rs.200 crore to Rs.300 crore funds sanctioned under this programme would not be sufficient to execute the proposed phase II works, he pointed out.
