Hyderabad: After a bountiful monsoon, shivering winter, the city is likely to witness heatwave-like conditions during the summer months. While the weather departments take March 1 to be the start of summer in Telangana, soaring temperatures across the State are indicating an early onset of the season.
The maximum temperature, which was around 28 degree Celsius until last week, rose suddenly to 34.4 degree Celsius on Sunday. According to the data recorded at various Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) by Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), most parts of Hyderabad are likely to record an increase in the daytime temperature by at least two to three degrees in the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad attribute the change in the weather to be due to a shift in the direction of the wind. Due to this, the night temperatures in the city have also soared to an average of 19 degree Celsius. While the official report is still awaited, it is likely that the city will witness a harsh summer this year. In their forecast for the next few days, IMD-H informs that dry weather will prevail over Hyderabad, and the average maximum and minimum temperatures will remain around 34 degree Celsius and 20 degree Celsius, respectively.
Meanwhile, the mercury has soared in many Telangana districts. On Sunday, Khammam and Nirmal recorded the maximum temperature of 37.2 degree Celsius. The temperature at many districts, including Mulugu, Jogulamba Gadwal and Nagarkurnool, might increase by two degrees in the coming days.
However, the officials at TSDPS also forecast a possibility of light rainfall at Mahabubabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Suryapet on Wednesday.
