Vizianagaram: BJP state president Somu Veerraju has accused both the YSR Congress Party and the Telugu Desam Party of arrogating to themselves the housing programmes sponsored by the Centre.
Talking to media persons here on Sunday, he challenged both the parties to speak on the same platform and he was ready to answer them. “The Central government has given a subsidy of Rs.1.8 lakh towards housing for the poor and the regional parties are trying to take the credit. If the State government gives Rs.1.5 lakh, then it can stake the claim. Till then it has no right to talk about housing, for, Modi has given Rs.4,000 crore as subsidy to the programme,” he stated.
He also noted that Jagan, who announced 300 sft houses free of cost, could not implement it since it incurs an expenditure of Rs.7,500 crore.
On the criticism of BJP by the Communist parties, Veerraju said they were stooges of China and Russia. “Why don’t the Communists make efforts to reopen the industries which are shut down in Vizianagaram? It appears they have special love for Jagan and Chandrababu,” he remarked.
He also alleged that rice from Andhra Pradesh was finding its way to neighbouring states as the state government was unable to provide support price for the farmers.
On the Vizag steel plant issue, the BJP leader said that the credit for saving the plant should go the Vajpayee and Modi, and this year the Centre had allocated Rs.900 crore for the plant.
“No irrigation project in the district raises any hope. Though a Chief Ministers’ level meeting was held, the Jhanjhavati project issue with Odisha has failed to break the deadlock. There is no progress in the Taraka Rama Theertha Sagar project. The Bheemasingi sugar factory here is on the verge of closure and the farmers there had to send their sugarcane for crushing to Sankili factory in Srikakulam district. The Nellimarla Jute Mills is already under lockout and the state of the jute mills in Vizianagaram and Bobbili is no better. The cheques given to Bobbili jute mills workers by the management have bounced, and the officials are auctioning lands of the private sector NCS Sugars to pay its dues to the farmers,” he observed.
Veerraju also expressed his displeasure that although the idols at Ramatheertham temple were destroyed on December 26, 2020, the government could not trace the culprits so far.
