Sonna Ginpaul and Rujula Ramu win titles at All India Senior ranking badminton tournament

Sonna Ginpaul of Delhi and Rujula Ramu of Karnataka won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the Yonex-Sunrise All India Senior ranking badminton tournament at Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence

Hyderabad: Sonna Ginpaul of Delhi and Rujula Ramu of Karnataka won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the Yonex-Sunrise All India Senior ranking badminton tournament at Jwala Gutta Academy of Excellence here on Thursday.

In the men’s singles final, 19-year-old Ginpaul, who finished runner-up in two Junior national-ranking tournaments in the recent past, shocked fifth-seeded Lakshay Sharma of Punjab with a 21-19, 17-21, 22-20 win.


Rujula, who won a ‘double’ winning the under-17 singles and doubles in the 2023 South Asian Regional junior badminton championship, pulled off the biggest upset getting the better of top-seeded Mansi Singh of Uttar Pradesh with a 9-21, 21-18, 21-18 win in the final.

Mohammad Amaan of Rajasthan and Dingku Singh Konthoujan won the men’s doubles title.

In women’s doubles, unseeded P. Amrutha of Karnataka and Sonali Singh of Uttar Pradesh scored a surprise, 21-12, 20-22, 21-12 win against fourth-seeded B. Diya Bheemaiah of Karnataka and Baruni Parshwal of Haryana.

There was something to cheer for the hosts when local boy K. Sathwik Reddy of Telangana combined well with Radhika Sharma of Punjab to score a 21-15, 21-10 win against Nitin Kumar of Delhi and Ritika Thaker of Maharashtra in the mixed doubles final.

The results:

All finals: Men: Singles: S. Ginpaul (DLI) bt Lakshay Sharma (PNB) 21-19, 17-21, 22-20.

Doubles: Mohammad Amaan (RAJ) & Dingku Singh Konthoujam (MNP) bt Deep Rambhiya & Pratik Ranade (MAH) 21-18, 21-19.

Women: Singles: Rujula Ramu (KTK) bt Mansi Singh (UP) 9-21, 21-18, 21-18 .

Doubles: P. Amrutha (KTK) & Sonali Singh (UP) bt B. Diya Bheemaiah (KTK) & Baruni Parshwal (HAR) 21-12, 20-22, 21-12.

Mixed doubles: K. Sathwik Reddy (TG) & Radhika Sharma (PNB) bt Nitin Kumar (DLI) & Ritika Thaker (MAH) 21-15, 21-10 .
