Hyderabad: Actor Sonu Sood is turning out to be not just a good Samaritan, but an inspiration for others as well. The actor’s deeds during the pandemic has inspired Shiva, a citizen of Hyderabad known for rescuing several people from drowning in the Hussain Sagar, to launch a free ambulance service to help the poor.
What more, the service, named Sonu Sood Ambulance Service, was launched by Sood himself here on Tuesday. Shiva has saved over 100 people who allegedly attempted suicide in the lake, thus earning the moniker Tank Bund Shiva. His acts saw people coming forward and donating money to help him. Instead of using the money for himself, Shiva bought the ambulance, a move he says was inspired by Sood.
“I named the ambulance as Sonu Sood Ambulance Service because I was inspired by his good work,” Shiva said.
Sood, who was in the city, launched the free ambulance service and praised Shiva for his work and felt that more “heroes” like him are needed to help the society.
“I feel privileged that I came for this ambulance inauguration. All thanks to Shiva. I have heard a lot about him that he has been saving lives and helping people and we need more Shivas in our society so everyone should come forward and help others,” Sood told the media.
Shiva, who lives near Tank Bund for about 20 years now, began rescuing people who jump into the lake to die by suicide, after the death of his own younger brother who drowned in another lake. He has also been helping the police to retrieve bodies from lakes.
