Vadodara: Sophie Devine held her nerve in a dramatic final over to defend nine runs, sealing a thrilling three-run win for Gujarat Giants over Delhi Capitals and completing a season double against them in the 17th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.

Under severe pressure, Devine once again operated with precision, using the ball effectively and leading the Giants to second place on the points table with eight points.

After posting 174/9, Gujarat faced immense pressure as Delhi needed nine runs in the last over with Sneh Rana and Niki Prasad at the crease. Devine allowed only four runs in the first three balls, then dismissed Rana with a fine delivery.

Minnu Mani took a single off the fifth ball, leaving Prasad to chase four runs off the last. Prasad attempted a big swing but found Ashleigh Gardner in the deep, sparking Gujarat’s celebrations as Delhi fell agonisingly short.

Beth Mooney anchored Gujarat’s innings with a composed 58 off 46 balls, supported by Anushka Sharma’s 39 and Tanuja Kanwar’s unbeaten 21 off 11 balls.

For Delhi, N Shree Charani starred with career-best figures of 4/31, while Chinelle Henry took 2/38 and Nandani Sharma was economical with 1/26.

Delhi’s chase began brightly with Shafali Verma’s quick 26, but Rajeshwari Gayakwad struck twice to remove Verma and Laura Wolvaardt. Lizelle Lee struggled for 11 off 20 balls, Jemimah Rodrigues managed 16, and Marizanne Kapp fell for a golden duck.

A spirited stand between Rana (29 off 15) and Prasad (47 off 24) revived hopes, but Devine’s mastery at the death — having earlier defended seven against the same opponents — ensured Gujarat sealed another nervy win.

Brief scores:
Gujarat Giants 174/9 in 20 overs (Beth Mooney 58, Anushka Sharma 39; Sree Charani 4/31, Chinelle Henry 2/38) beat Delhi Capitals 171/8 in 20 overs (Niki Prasad 47, Sneh Rana 29; Sophie Devine 4/37, Rajeshwari Gayakwad 3/20) by three runs.
