Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) on Wednesday launched a first-of-its-kind ‘Rail Parcel Logistics’ application to simplify parcel transportation through trains.

The app was unveiled by SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava during a conclave on ‘Rail Parcel Logistics’ held at Rail Nilayam.

Described as a next-generation digital marketplace, the application offers end-to-end parcel booking services, including doorstep pickup and delivery.

Customers can track consignments in real time, receive automated updates at every stage of transit and make secure digital payments through multiple online modes. The platform also displays logistics service provider charges and ratings, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.

Railway officials said the pilot rollout covers seven cities including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru and Chennai.

On the same occasion, SCR signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Institute of Management Bangalore to undertake a comprehensive study of the freight logistics market.

The institute will conduct demand forecasting, competitiveness analysis and infrastructure assessments to help SCR prepare a long-term strategy aimed at boosting rail-based freight movement and meeting national freight loading targets by 2030.
