Southwest Monsoon arrives early in Telangana, Heavy rains likely through the week

The IMD-New Delhi, in its monsoon update, stated that conditions are favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the next three days.

Hyderabad: The Southwest Monsoons have entered Telangana State on Monday, almost two weeks in advance. The early onset and rapid advance of Southwest Monsoons are expected to translate into heavy to very heavy rains all through this week till Saturday, May 31, IMD-Hyderabad in its forecast on Monday indicated.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-New Delhi in its update on advancement of Southwest Monsoons, released on Monday evening, said “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Karnataka including Bengaluru, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh today on May 26”.

The conditions are favorable for further advancement of the monsoon into remaining parts of Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh during the next three-days, the IMD-New Delhi in its monsoons update added.

Every year, usually, the Southwest Monsoons arrive in Telangana State between June 8 and June 10 , and tends to cover the entire State by June 12 or 14. This year, however, the Southwest Monsoons are already active in Telangana State by May 26, 2025.

The IMD-Hyderabad in its Monday evening forecast has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning across multiple locations in Telangana State. The Hyderabad weather department issued heavy rainfall for Monday and Tuesday and heavy to very heavy rainfall for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Overall, the districts where the impact of monsoons will he heavy include Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.

All through the week, the maximum temperatures across all the 33 districts of Telangana State will remain less than 3 degree Celsius. For Hyderabad, the IMD-Hyderabad forecast indicated that till May 30, the weather will remain “Generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain/drizzle accompanied with gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely to occur”.

Based on analysis by noted weather tracker from Hyderabad T Balaji, at present the Southwest Monsoons advanced and are active in Southern parts of Telangana State including Gadwal, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool and Nalgonda.
